"For each of us there is some mission in life if we but find it. All have some definite thing to do, something for which they have been created; and only the doing of this thing will justify their existence here on earth. If we come into the world and occupy space and time without giving back for this privilege, we have not justified ourselves, and our lives in the end are barren." ~ Hay

The Advertising of Unhealthy Food is OUT OF CONTROL!

I just got home from a workshop in New Jersey.  I took the train into Penn Station, NYC and then a Path train to Jersey City.  While in Penn Station, I noticed this painted staircase.  Actually, there was another staircase to the right that said, “Grab and Go.”
Painted Staircase in Penn Station, NYC

I honestly couldn’t believe it!  Why do we continually allow the promotion of harmful substances to the body?  Study after study shows that soda is bad for you, yet it is advertised everywhere and people continue to drink it daily... WHY?!  How can money be more important than someone’s health and well-being?  Yes, it is a choice whether or not to drink soda and eat potato chips, but advertising has conditioned the mind, especially young minds, that it is as American as American pie.  No wonder so many people are overweight and children are getting diabetes.
It is not healthy to snack.  If you have three healthy, filling meals a day, you do not need to snack.  The body needs time for digestion and repair.  If you are continually filling your body with food every few hours, the body doesn’t have time to digest the previous meal and it will begin to decay and rot in your intestines.  Try eating only three times a day and make each meal a healthy, filling one.  You will see a big difference in how you look and feel.  There is no need to ever eat potato chips or drink poison, oops, I meant soda.
It’s time we promote healthy foods instead of unhealthy ones.  Why not paint a beautiful basket of fruit on the stairs, or paint a piano to encourage exercise like they did in Sweden?

We will get there!  Awareness is a start!  We will succeed in breaking down the conditioned mind.  If everyone switches their choices to healthy ones, potato chip and soda manufactures will be forced out of business.  Maybe that would encourage our Government to pass a “Health Care Act” instead of a “Sick Care Act.”  What do you think?

What the bleep is with all the television sets?

Recently I was in New York City for a wedding.  We took a taxi from the hotel to the ceremony.  Upon entering the back of the cab, there was a television set.  Seriously!  In fact, we took four cab rides and in each cab there was a television set mounted to the back of the front passenger seat.  Why in the world would anybody want to watch television when sitting in the back of a cab in New York City?
Television set now found in NYC cabs

...and in the elevator at the hotel.

Television sets can be found at gas stations, banks and grocery store checkout lines.  They are popping up all over business establishments.
I find it insulting.  Yes….I said insulting!  I don’t need my mind occupied with television everywhere I go.  I purposely have to direct my gaze elsewhere.  I bet you think, no big deal, just look away.  However, it’s basic human nature to look.  When I’m on line at the grocery store and see a television set right in my face, I have to turn my body in a different direction and not look up, especially because “mostly negative news” is on.
I don’t watch television at home.  Mostly because I am too busy and have a lot going on in my life.  When I’m out and about, I don’t need the constant chatter of a television set in my brain.  I am perfectly capable of creating my own chatter.  I recommend that you do the same.  TURN OFF THE TELEVISION SET!  And direct your gaze elsewhere if around one.

How to take care of yourself when you are super busy….

I wish I had time to smell the flowers, but I must get back to work!
Okay…I have to admit, I’m feeling a little drained.  I’ve taken on a bit more than I can chew.   I have immersed myself in many different projects, some small and some quite BIG.  All I can say is keep your eyes peeled on this blog for some fascinating things coming from me the next six months.  I promise you will be amazed!
There are times when you feel you want to take on the world.  In doing so, you get so super busy that you no longer have any time to cook.  In addition, you gulp down meals and forfeit a good night sleep.  SLOW DOWN!  (I feel that if I write the words I will actually listen myself.)  Things will get done.  It’s important to take care of yourself along the way so you do not suffer burnout or get your body in a run-down state.  Here are some suggestions you must do everyday no matter how busy you are;
1.      Get a good night sleep – The most important time for beauty sleep is between the hours of 10:00 pm – 12:00 am.  If I go to bed after midnight, I am exhausted the next day.  Try to quiet the mind then lights out no later than 10:30 pm.  Your body will work more efficiently the next day and you will be able to focus and get more done.  Remember Benjamin Franklin’s famous quote, “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise.”
2.      Eat only healthy food  – If you are super busy, you need major energy.  Nothing is going to provide energy like whole foods in their natural state.  The crock pot can be your best friend in times like this or set aside a few hours on the weekend to set up dinners for the week.  Better yet, enlist other family members in your house to help.
3.      Breathe - If you have obligations that you must meet and are feeling tired or overwhelmed, just drop your shoulders, sit up straight and take a few deep breaths.  Even if you have to do this every ½ hour or so, it will keep your mind sharp and on task.
4.      Call a Friend – One of the best ways to revitalize yourself and give your mind a short rest is to call a friend.  Set the kitchen timer for 15 minutes and pick up the phone.  Ask the friend to tell you a joke.  Laughter is great medicine for a run-down state.
5.      Go on YouTube – If you are afraid the 15 minutes long conversation will turn into 1 hour, find something funny on YouTube.  I can watch this clip from “Whose Line Is It Anyway” over and over again.  It cracks me up.

I wish I had time to write more!  However, I must get back to work.  Stay tuned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why NOT to drink Alcohol!

Nothing hydrates like water when it is 100 degrees out!
This will not be a popular post due to the fact that many people believe that it is okay to drink alcohol in moderation.  It is my belief, that drinking alcohol is dangerous to your health and well-being.  Yes, this even goes against the “one drink a day” advice we frequently hear in the newspaper.  You couldn’t pay me to drink even one drop of alcohol!
Years ago, I was brainwashed to believe that it was okay to drink one glass of red wine a day.  All studies in the newspapers pointed to the fact that resveratrol in red wine could help prevent age related brain and heart disease.  So I followed the pack and drank one glass of wine with dinner most nights for a period of about one year.  It wasn’t until I started to do research on alcohol that I learned that the red grapes provide the benefits associated with resveratrol; alcohol is a poison.  I’m sure you are wondering where I got my information that alcohol is a poison.  I will tell you that I found the information in old books.  The “one drink a day” advice from today is advocated by corporations who have a vested interest in the sale of the alcohol.  I DON’T TRUST IT!
You be the judge of this information.  I will list a few of the quotes I found from various books.  By the way, there is a lot more where this came from…..
When mingled with the blood, alcohol destroys the blood-corpuscles, increases the proportion of fat, renders the blood less capable of passing readily through the capillaries, coagulates the fibrine, and injures the nutrient elements of the plasma of the blood.  When a considerable quantity of alcohol is taken, the distinction between venous and arterial blood is almost destroyed, all the blood assuming a dark hue.” ~ J.H. Kellogg, M.D.
Every human being admires strength and desires to acquire all he can and when this one in fact is considered it becomes extremely difficult to understand how anyone can continue to burn out his internal organs with these liquid poisons.  It has been proven conclusively again and again that alcohol of all kinds lessons the muscular vigor.” ~ Bernarr Macfadden
There are many blood vessels in the brain, and much blood passes through them to feed the brain.  Alcohol makes the blood-vessels stretch, and then too much blood flows into the brain.  Alcohol is a sharp, biting poison.  It will shrink the brain and do it much other harm.  The brain was made to think with, but no person can think so well when his brain is shrunken with alcohol.  By ruining the brain alcohol ruins the mind.” ~ Physiology and Health
When drinking alcohol, the outposts of the nerves are paralyzed.  The force, now drawn in to the nervous centres, drives the machinery of life with tremendous energy.  The heart jumps like the mainspring of a watch when the resistance of the wheels is removed.  The blood surges through the body with increased force.  If the influence be still continued, the alcohol acts upon the spinal cord.”  ~ J. Dorman Steele, PhD.
So…what do you think?  Not convinced, I invite you to do your own research.  Einstein said to “question everything.”    As for me, I’ll stick to water!

Baby....it's hot outside!
